Here's my criteria for judging a great art/craft book...how many pages can I get through before the ideas/photo's in the book give me this overpowering need to jump up and go create something. With this one, I felt the need to go try the ideas about every other page, which is outstanding!One thing I was hesitant about before buying was that it was a "project" book....and I hate project books. I simply do not want to replicate someone else's art. That was not a problem with this book. What they call "projects" are more like general ideas with basic how-to-steps....the author gives you an idea, shows you what she did with that idea, gives you the basic steps so you can do it, but leaves the details up to you.
This book will make you enthused and it's just a great book. I'm thinking one of the classics for mixed media. It's a book you must have for your library. She does use her collage for 3-D projects that are just delightful. She has a design for a doll that is moveable at the joints using scrap booking rivets or grommets.She has her recipe for fusion fabric and fibers. This is really rich and inspiring for you fiber artists.Then her jewelry is beautifully abstract. ( And I don't like abstract!)Angelina fabric is so shiny and sparkly--she has a recipe!I love my copy and it's a staple!!! Thank you Jane DaviesKay
i get a huge amount of books from the library on one topic. i then go through all of them looking for the best book for my standard reference work on that topic. that is how i found this book, which is now my standard reference work for mixed media collage in books. the pictures are marvelous, which is a MUST with any art book. there is also a comprehensive listing of materials and a series of projects. Filled with amazing projects!!! I have utilized this book everytime I am looking for something new to do I reach for this book.
I just got this book today. It's chock full of great mixed media techniques. Jane works with paper, fabric, tissue, makes her own boxes, shrines and paper dolls...and that's not all. Lots of fun projects, ideas and templates. She has a great way of writing as if you were having a conversation with her in person. I like that personal style.
Love this book-- great ideas and functional methods included. Great inspiration for those who love to get lost in mixed media art projects
