About the Author
Edward Alcamo is a Distinguished Professor of Microbiology at the State University of New York at Farmingdale. He has taught at the college level for 30 years, specializing in microbiology for nursing and other allied health science students. Dr. Alcamo has been honored for excellencein Teaching by the State University of New York (1990) and the NationalAssociation of Biology Teachers (1990). He is an AIDS educator, an active member of the American Society for Microbiology, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. Lawrence M. Elson received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Zoology (Pre-Med), and completed his graduate and Ph.D. work in Human Anatomy also at the University of California, Berkeley. Elson has served as an instructor in human anatomy at the City College of San Francisco, an assistant professor of anatomy at Baylor College of Medicine, and as a lecturer at numerous additional universities and professional organizations. Elson is the founder and president of Coloring Concepts, Inc. (CCI), producer and packager of college level, educational, scientific directed-coloring texts. He is the author/co-author of the Anatomy Coloring Book, Human Brain Coloring Book, Zoology Coloring Book, and Microbiology Coloring Book. Presently, he is principally functioning as a clinical and forensic anatomist retained as a consultant to governments, provinces, insurance and other corporations, and law firms on causation of injury issues in cases in or anticipated to be involved in litigation. Future plans include expanding CCI by developing new titles in the physical sciences and other education-related disciplines.

Great book for studying microbiology. I gave it only 4 stars for two reasons.1. The paper is way to thin. I used my fine liner pens in these and they went through the paper to inter with the word drawn on the other side. The first four pictures show how they bleed through. It’s best to stick with color pencils with this. I prefer the prisms colored pencils 72 count. See last two pictures.2. More diseases could have been added to make the book more complete. There are not many diseases in this book which made it more a supplement than a real vital help at midterm time.Would I buy it again? Yes definitely. I love that I am able to have fun coloring time while still studying for class.
This is an amazing resource. If I had had these coloring books in high school and college, I would have done much better. I am a visual learner and need pictures! And I love to doodle, draw and color. :)For those considering it for homeschooling - the Chemistry coloring book is much easier. This book would be more suited to a high schooler. Be aware that it covers topics of viruses and such. So there is mention of STD's. There are also some drawings to color that are PG 13. While they are appropriate to the topic, some parents will want to go through this ahead of time and do some editing depending on the age and maturity of the student using the book.
I thought is would be a good supplement for microbiology class but I didn't like the layout. Pictures were too detailed and too many on each page. I started one page and didn't use it again.

This book is great for all ages. I bought this as a "I'm moving out gift" for my roommate (microbiology is kind of my thing). The book contains pages of information that correspond to images to color, so it is a great way to make learning fun. And it is set up to have information then an image to color then information and then an image to color. Not full of information with coloring in the back, so the layout is done right. Shoot, I wish I had this while in high school. The information would have been more useful and enjoyable than what I was taught.
While these books may appear as simple children's activities, they are instead detailed and complete guides to college level work and textbooks, giving a new initiative to learning material. The color, details, and careful explanations included within these books complement work done in the classroom and in the field. Before paying out large sums for study guides, outside tutoring or online help, try this book. This was the hardest class in college for me, and this book kept me on track particularly during the more detailed and confusing microbiology cellular activities.
Good if you're looking for a completely different type coloring book to relax with- as for using it to learn microbiology check with your professor to see if it will be useful but I really enjoyed coloring it as a change of pace from the more standard theme type books such as mandalas and such that seem to be churned out over and over.
I bought this book to accompany my college microbiology textbook as I find the act of coloring and labeling the pictures to be an effective study aid for me... Unfortunately, most of the info we covered in class was not present in the book. I colored what I found applicable but the rest was unused... I'm just not that into microbiology to color the whole thing without needing it to study. Now my 8 year old colors in it and it provides me with a teaching opportunity so all in all I'm happy I bought it.
