This is such an interesting read. I am also a former research scientist and now, like Hank Wesselman, a shamanic practitioner and trainer. I understand so well his struggle to come to terms with his experiences and his training as a scientist. Shamanism is about experience, and his experience is extraordinary. While I haven't had these same experiences, I have observed seemingly miraculous healings and life changes in myself, my clients, and my students. As Shakespeare said "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy". While many scientists will be skeptical because they haven't had shamanic experiences, it is interesting to note how many of the shamanic leaders and teachers were scientists (Michael Harner, Albreto Villoldo, Sandra Ingerman, Hank Wesselman). Anyone who is familiar with quantum mechanics knows that the world is not the way most scientists believe.
could not put this book down.!i'm a retired research biologist, I am also a Core Shamanic Practitioner[see Michael Harner..Cave and Cosmos]. I was just getting into Shamanism, it sounded interesting when I ran into these books, I really had doubts about this stuff too.. about a week after I finished the trilogy I had a lucid dream. I dreamed that I had shape shifted into this guy in the pacific northwest on 11-25-14 at 11:45am. I was looking out of his eyes and hearing his thoughts just like in the books, just after a huge earthquake. he was trying to get to the tsunami assembly area to meet his girlfriend [she was Hot] so she wouldn't worry about him the dream was on 11-3-14. there was a 6.2 earthquake in Alaska on 11-25-14.. I was 1 hour and 30 minutes off, but could have been because of the last time he looked at a clock. in the Spirit World this is called.. "Conformation."
Beautiful book. I couldn't put it down and have now read all three of the books in this series. Really well written. Dr. Wessleman shares an incredible journey with us, and opens the door for a deeper shamanic life within each of us. Thank you Dr. Wesselman for your courage!
This author, trained as a scientific cultural anthropologist, entered the world of shamanic journeying, rather accidentally (or not...). His inquisitive mind, and openness to the possibility of unknown spiritual realms, result in a fascinating account of twelve exciting journeys. His style of writing is so clear and detailed that it seemed I was on the journey with him! He also adds historical and cultural facts to explain what is occurring, both in current time and in the future. This book is a good source to understand shamanism in today's world.
This is the best book I've read in a while. I would put it up with the classic books by Robert Monroe, Carlos Castaneda, and other stories. That make you realize life is stranger then fiction.
This book is not new and I bought another copy because somehow through the years I lost it or loaned it to someone. It is well written and by a credible individual. I have the triology and have read them all more than once. If you like to think outside the box, and especially if you've had paranormal or mystical experiences as I have had, this story will speak to you.
As a lover of anthropology, spirituality, and sci-fi, this book was right up my alley. Gripping story mixed with knowledge about the past, present, and future. Loved it & am going to see if there’s a sequel!
Hank Wesselman is a great author and this series of books is an astonishing autobiographical sketch of his experiences. I highly recommend the whole series (Spiritwalker, Visionseeker & Medicinemaker).
